SHORT EXCURSIONS FROM OLDEN

SINGERHEIMEN

where an American millionaire, painter and philanthropist in the local area, lived in his time. Many of his paintings depict Olden and its surrounding areas, and they mirror in a wonderful way the atmosphere of the area during all four seasons. Mrs Singer donated the estate to Sogn og Fjordane County as a recreation area for health service personnel. In July 1987 Singer\s studio was converted into a museum.


WALKING TRIP: AUFLEM – OLDEN

(a one and a half hour walk). The route follows the footpath from the Hotel towards Loen until it comes to an end. Then there is a a bit of an incline until you reach a sign saying "Olden". The route then follows a cart track to Olden centre. The view over inner Nordfjord is magnificent.


WALKING TRIP: BRUVOLL – LØKEFOSSEN

(a one and a half hour walk). The route leads from the centre of Olden towards Oldedalen valley. After approximately 500 meters, you cross the river and continue along its western bank to the waterfall. The route then takes you onto the main road which leads back to the town centre.


WALKING TRIP TO SKARSTEINSETER

(a three hour trip). You can drive all the way to Heggestad, a group of farms on the west side of the fjord. From there you can follow a marked footpath up to the sheperd's cottage in the mountain. From here teher is a fantastic view across Olden, the Oldedalen valley and Loen.


PLANE TRIP OVER THE GLACIER.

When the weather is good, it is a wonderful experience to fly over the glacier in a aeroplane. 60 minute or 30 minute flights can be arranged, and the plane will pick up passengers here in Olden. For further details, please contact reception.
